TC33D Tach

This is my first post but I'm sure will not be my last. Just got my 33 back from the dealer after the 50 Hr. maintenance. There were two items that I wanted the dealer to check. First was that the Engine Tach did not always function correctly and Engine RPMs ( when the tach did function only showed 2250 rpm).

They fixed the engine rpm problem. The engine now runs substantially faster and tractor has more power. They were not able to fix the Tach problem.

Tach Problem. When engine starts, Tach reads 1000 rpm at idle. At full throtle, rpm drops to zero. Dealer states that the dash module containing tach unit was changed out and problem was not corrected. Has anyone seen this problem on a 33 or other N/H tractors?

I have not experienced this problem and do not recall any other posts on TBN about this.

I was under the impression, based upon how aftermarket tachs for diesel engines work, is there's a transducer (?) on the fuel line that counts the pulses of the injection pump. The dealer should have checked, and repaired this.

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to call the dealer today and discuss this with him.

I really need to get a real shop manual (after market type) for the 33D. Anyone have info on sources of this type of manual. With the hourly rates what they are in todays service centers, it doesn't take but one or so less trips to the dealer to pay for a set of manuals.

The owners manual had some electrical diagrams in it but none of these showed the tach or signals supplying input to the tach.

I ordered the repair manuals directly from New Holland. There's a number to call in the back of the Owner's Manual. There's one set that covers all Class II Boomers (TC25, TC29, TC33). I recall they were about $100. I also ordered the other set of manuals (shop?), but was told they were no longer available.

I have not seen any aftermarket manuals.
