New Holland TC33D HST
Hi all, I've got a New Holland TC33D HST that has begun to stall and die when it gets up to operating temperature. I have changed fuel filter bled lines at pump and injecctors, checked fuel solenoid when cold and warm operation seems normal, battery checks out fine. Tractor won't run again until it cools off. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Does it stall with or without a load on the engine?

Not that I have a clue, but it could be something (gasket) that opens up with heat expansion that results in fuel starvation. Will it sit stationary and idle when warmed up, or does the stall only happen under a load?

not to be stupid, but have you checked the fuel tank vent / vented cap?

When I had a very similar problem with a previous tractor, it turned out to be gasoline in the diesel fuel which I had bought at a truck stop. Bet there were a lot of unhappy truckers that day. I drained some fuel out into a shallow pan and could smell the gasoline in it. Of course, I had tried everything else imaginable prior to smelling the fuel, draining and refilling.

It will stall out at an idle, the first time it happened was under load blowing snow, since then haven't been able to keep it running once warmed even at idle.

Checked and cleaned cap, even tried running with cap loose just to be sure.

I will drain the tank and try some new fuel, can't hurt -- thanks Halftrack.

2 votes for gas in the fuel tank.

I just traded a TC33D I had for 13 years. When it got hot it got vapor lock in the diesel tank. There were a bunch of TC33's with defective vents in the fuel tank caps. When the machines get hot the vent would close causing a vacuum in the tank which starved the fuel pump and stalled the tractor. You can tell if this is your problem by loosening the cap as soon as it stalls and listening for a whooshing sound as it draws in air. If it does, get another cap or do what I did. just loosen the cap a tiny bit and tighten it when you're done.

FIXED -- After draining the tank and putting fresh fuel in the problem has gone away, the old fuel has a faint smell of gasoline and doesn't have the oily texture of diesel, lessson learned I will be going the extra few miles to the truck stop instead of the local gas station from now on. Thanks a million Halftrack and Rickb! I got to say this forum has been a lifesaver on more than one occasion thanks to everyone who takes the time to help out a fellow New Holland owner!
