Well - I couldn't resist (actually the CEO says green and orange tractors are ugly but she likes the blue ones) ... and stopped in at a local NH dealer and drove 2 machines TC30 and TC25D.

There has always been orange (and some green) runnin in my veins. I'm pretty much decided on an orange 2710, but I'll be as objective as I can.

First I looked a bunch-o-tractors over very carefully. Unfortunately, this dealer leaves his stock outside 24/7 and this results in 2 things:

1. Some rust even on new machines
2. Stolen parts. Apparently, he used to lose 2 top-links a week, so the machines are sitting there with all kinds of things missing 'cause the dealer himself dismantles the takeables.

TC25D: Quite a nice machine and ergonomically superior to both orange and green IMO. I particularly liked the 20degree seat swivel. I'm not fond of the 2 speed bucket dump (7308 loader), and the forward visibility on the boomers is unparalleled.

TC30: For those who don't know yet (very few I'm sure), this is an ergonomic and asthetic scale down from the boomer line. It has a TC33 powerplant and TC25D tranny in it, but is down-reved to 30hp gross - 25hp PTO at it's rpm rating. Frankly, it's quasi-plain appearance and lack of curves was refreshing. Some of the controls were difficult to get to, especially the parking brake which I would immediately lengthen. One very bothersome attribute, when I fired it up, idling at about 750 rattled the cockpit so bad that I could not carry on a conversation with the rep. He reaching up and bumped the throttle to about 1300 where everything quieted down.

Other TC30 notes: Stock NON foldable ROPS, NON telescoping 3ph Links, No supersteer (not a prob for moi), no swivel seat, and the pto levers are low, short and under your legs if you're built like moi.

This dealer, a typical S. NY dealer could not make competitive prices so this merely turned out to be an exercise in discovering the blue hardware.

Here are the price quotes:

TC29D with 7308 FEL/QuickTatch, cutting edge, wheel weights, R4s, prep: $19,300. Subtract or add $700 for the TC25D or the TC33D respectively. Hmmmm, $700 clams for 3 hp ...

TC30: With 7308 FEL, Cutting edge, wheel weights, prep, R4s: $17,500.

I know upstate I'll find a $2000 swing on this price model. The TC30 has barged it's way into my B2710 thought process however. Being a new machine on the line, one wonders what the long haul on this model will look like.

Finally, all of the documentation refers to 2WD (2 wheel drive) and FWD (front wheel drive). These machines DO HAVE 4 WHEEL DRIVE DON"T THEY? Ya know, all wheels running from the drive train simultaneously?

Well, it's a tough call. The Greens, Oranges, and Blues, do not line up well when looking at the spec sheets ('cept for maybe the TC29D and B2910) int the 25-35 hp range.. The NH D machines seem to emphasize ergonomics and standardize these features into their D lines (enter the TC30).

I found a dealer upstate whom I'm told sells both blue AND orange. Wonder how the sales men handle a customer like me?

And just for kicks .. the salesman told me that if I drop down the road to the CASE dealer, I'll see the TC30 wearing a C1230 badge and dressed in red. One day, someone will invent a 'clear' tractor. I would get that one I think.

My TC30 hydro shakes at idle speeds under 1000 rpm. The dealer showed me that the TC33D has rubber isolation mounts on the engine to dampen vibration. The same engine on the TC30 does not have them. I don't consider it a problem, I run over 1000 rpms all the time anyway. I paid $15,100 for mine with hydro, 7308 loader, HD bucket, Turf tires. See my review in the review section at the top of the page.

FYI: The TC25D was discontinued a couple of months back, I believe. So if the dealer still has one on the lot, it's been around a bit. You may be able to negotiate a lower price.

That explains it! ... I putted around in the TC25D for a while, but his quote sheet was for a 29D. It musta been a 2001 too.

This is Southern N.Y. State ... budging off of list is a felony apparently.

Thanks John.

Thanks mrwurm. Oh and btw, not to nit pick, but your pretty photo reveals that your tires are not turf tires (R3) but "Industrial" as in R4.

Have you given any thoughts to some rubber motor mounts? I liked this blue box to be sure. Do you have the solid 3ph links or did you order telescoping links?

I got a quote from Brim Tractor in Burlington, Washington. Dated July 6th,2002. For a new TC30,hydro,7308 with HD bucket, R4's and deluxe 3pt. delivered 78 miles and free 50 hour service for $14900.

My best freind bought this tractor, from this quote. And it showed up with an unexpected rear work light installed. He has 39 hours on it and loves it.

Doug, the photo was for illustration purposes and not an actual picture of my tractor. You can see my tractor in the customization forum under 'added toolbox', 'added horn' or 'modifed my hitch'.

No, I did'nt get the telescoping links. I don't change 3pt attachments very often.

You know, I could do that !

The IrfanView software that was recommended to me
by a fellow TBN'er can add text to photos /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Cool! /w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif

Put on the picture - This is NOT Jerry's TC30! It only looks Like Jerry's TC30! 'Cept Jerry's TC30 Does Not Have R4's, or Adjustable 3pt Links. But Jerry's TC30 DOES Have a Cool Tool Box.

Will that make it clear enough to people that your TC30 is somewhat different?? /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif
