TC24D rear PTO not working

Hi. I have a 2003 TC24D, 170 hours, and the rear PTO will not engage. I bought this one used from a dealer in Wisconsin (long story, see my old threads about my original getting cracked in half by a tree). The hydraulics, everything else is fine. I do not remember ever testing the rear PTO, so it may have been toast when I bought it. It was an insurance replacement and it was the only 2003 TC24D I could find in time, with low hours and the loader etc. I obviously don't use the PTO much, so in my haste to deal with the issue, I may have never tested it.

The handle moves freely, but nothing seems to happen (although it sounds like a slight noise happens). In addition, the mid-mount PTO handle will not move at all without a nasty grinding noise. Any ideas?

Side note my local dealer hooked up a hydraulic kit to allow the backhoe (which survived the tree), but I don稚 think that would have anything to do with the PTO.

OK, I warn that you might find this a little insulting, but have you checked to see that it's not a linkage problem? The rear PTO lever on my TC26DA doesn't move all that freely - sometimes is a little balky and requires a little double clutch action to get it to go in. I've never looked at the lever linkage except to adjust the depth of the bolt that hits the safety switch in the back, so maybe there is nothing there to come apart.. it's just a guess.

Thanks for the reply, somehow I wasn't notified. Sorry for the delay in responding... does the TC26DA require a clutch movement before the lever engages? As far as I know, the TC24D just requires the lever to be pushed down.

Believe me, you won't insult me... I should have checked the PTO action years ago, when I first bought it. :ashamed:
