New Holland TC21D
I bought a used TC21D about 2 weeks ago. It has a FEL, and MMM. I had it out on Sunday to do some loader work, and noticed a small amount of oil on my MMM. I couldn't see where the leak was coming from so I decided to take the MMM off the tractor. The first time I got to do it was today. The leak seems to be coming from a line that comes from the left side engine, and runs to the side of the middle of the tractor. Then it goes into a cloth type connection, and continues. The connection is the problem the way it looks. I don't know alot about this type of stuff, but it seems that this cloth connection is loose or needs replaced. I called the dealer that I bought the tractor off of , and he said he'd let me know what's going on after he talks to the guys in the shop. I understand this, because I'm sure he doesn't work on these tractors either. So I'm asking if anyone knows about this type of connection, and can I run the tractor without hurting it. I've been told by a friend that the oil is to the lift of the loader, or mower. Thanks again for all the kindness everyone has shown me. I admit to being new to compact tractors. Kent

No idea what the line is, but a trip to the dealer (you, not the tractor) might be value-added. If they let you in the shop area, you may see what this line does.
If it's hydraulic fluid, read a few of the threads on safety around pressurized lines (the reason I bring this up is the cloth line may be a protective cover over a hydraulic line).

Glad you're enjoying your tractor!

Thanks Roy, Yes I'll be careful. I won't look at it myself, as I'm not to good with my hands. I can work with wood, but not metal. I'm hoping for an idea of the use of that line, but I'm not sure, but a TC owner most likely has the same line from 18 hp to 33 hp. Thanks again Roy. Kent

If the cloth connection you are talking about, is what I think it is, it is actually a rubber hose wrapped with a weaved cloth to make it stronger. If that is the case, there should be a hose clamp where the two come together. If so, a turn of a screwdriver may fix the problem. You'll want to check your hyd. oil level when your done.

Steelfan,I had that exact same thing happen on my TC-18.They tightened those clamps and it's been fine !
NH needs to TIGHTEN up their over all quality control.I found a few defects like these on my 18,nothing serious except HST seals, but when enough warranty work starts cutting into their profits....They'll learn fast enuogh !
But in the end , these machines are still the best for the money. dass

Thanks Guys. I was thinking that the problem was not serious. I figured there maybe a loose clamp on that connection. I'm grateful for the replies. Kent

Messicks sent a guy to look at the leak today. He said as many of you did, that the clamps were loose on the hose. He did a couple of turns on it , and is was fixed. Also had him adjust my PTO levers while he was here. Had to hold back on them to start tractor. Will not anymore. He ran 70 miles one way, and they were great about. There is a fine New Holland Dealer. Thanks Again Guys. Kent

I gotta small leak too. I metioned it back 3-4 weeks ago in a thread. This is the third time it's going back for this. The leak is located at the on top of the front hub. It blew running the tractor. I heard it go and saw the puff of hydro fluid spray out. It goes back in the morning. The first time they put the seal in upside down./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif didnt help the leak either. So back she went. got it home looked the next day...bigger puddle this time. It went from quarter size puddle after a few days to now at the size of a small coffee cup sauser on the floor. Lets see what happens this time. The dealer said they will have to contact NH for some advise? Il keep ya posted on this follie!/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif, Larry
