I have a New Holland TC18. I was using the tractor, turned off and when I tried to restart, it would not turn over. Battery good, fuse link good, fuses good, no lights. Can anyone help, I'm lost. Thanks:mur:

Check your ground wires and battery connections

I had a similar problem with my TC18 last spring. All of a sudden it would not start. I tested battery and voltage was 12+ volts and thought battery was good. Then I decided to boost it with my Kubota and it fired right up. I purchased a new battery and it's been fine since.

Not sure about your TC 18 but my TC 33 has some wire connections located under the operators platform for switch positions. It seems a twig pulled one loose and I didn't know about it until I stopped the tractor and then tried to restart. Look under the left side for PTO position switch or other dangling connections.

Since your engine would not turn over after you used the tractor. My bet is that there is neutral sensing switch or PTO sensing switch that are not closed. Jiggle your levers while trying to start, and you may get it to work. If that doesn't work, look for loose wires around both of those switches. Also, check your seat switch. Normally, the seat switch will let the engine turn over, but will shut off fuel so that the engine won't start. However, I'm not sure of the electrics on a TC18 and the seat switch could be mechanized to keep the starter from operating.

EDIT: What do you mean by "no lights" in your original post? Do you mean there are no headlights or there are no warning lights? If you have no headlights or instrument panel normal lights, then the problem is dirty or loose battery terminals. Also, check your main fuse down by the starter. If that fuse blows, nothing electrical will work anywhere on the tractor.

Thanks jinman, now have lights and panel. but still will not turn over. I had already replaced the fuse link, from starter. Can find no loose wires, not sure about the neutral or PTO sensing switch, but will try the jiggle...looked for a seat switch, dont have one.

Problem solved, thanks jinman, it was the PTO sensor.
