TC18/21D 50 hour service

Here's a summary for those interested: Overall took me about three hours.

Parts required ($89 at NH dealership)
4 qts oil
1 gal Hydro oil
oil filter
HST filter
Hydraulic filter
fuel filter

Tools required
Metric wrench / socket set
Torque wrench
Filter wrenches (2 sizes)
grease gun - pistol grip or standard with flexible hose
oil catching pan
shop vac
compressed air (can use blower of shop vac)
rags & paper towels

Lessons learned
Remove all attachments before starting. Especially MMM, makes for easier access.

Standard grease gun has access problems, need flex hose. Pistol grip grease gun fits, but runs out of grease quickly.

When bleeding fuel pump after changing fuel filter, loosten screw untill fuel bubbles out.

Changing Hydraulic and HST filters is messy when you don't drain oil. Have new filter unboxed and ready to go (coat seal with new oil) before removing old filter. This way you can swap quickly & minimize the amount of Hydraulic oil you lose in the process.

Engine didn't take full rated capacity of oil. Stop well short & check dipstick. I had to drain excess.

Funney you should mention that. I was eying one up at sears, unfortunatley the wife was with me and I got the look. Do you NEED that? I told her she wasn't any fun to shop for tools with.

I picked up a CH brand grease gun at TSC for $30.00 (wife not with me /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif). I'll let you how well it works.
