new holland tc40a
Good morning gentlemen,
I was hoping for some guidance for a mechanically dysfunctional tractor owner on a budget...
I have a 2004 TC 40a for a few years now and have been lucky with repairs. Although it only has 940 hours, I have kept it maintained oil changes, filters and greased up etc.
It's been a couple of days now parked and now won't start...? I attempted to jump it, I just get lights on at dash. Purchased fresh battery still nothing but dash lights on. No noise, no crank nothing.... Checked battery cables and they're not frayed or broken... No leaks visible either...?
I'd like to at least diagnose the problem myself can anyone advise me as to what would be my next step in the diagnoses...? Should I check the starter and how do I? Fuses?

This is how I would go about it.

#1 Safety switches:
PTO
Seat
Gear shift neutral

#2 Fuses:
Open up cowling behind/below the steering wheel and look for blown fuses. I've never had to take my cowling off, so it would be a discovery trip for me too.

Dash lights on means you are getting battery power. Battery connections should be clean since you changed the battery.

I checked all the safety switches mentioned they seem to be good... Going to look behind dash and check fuses next... I did some research and I'm hoping its a #10 fuse that's blown that has cause so many others starting issues....

That's exactly what it was that pesky no. 10 fuse! Thanks for the advice! I truly appreciate it! Again thanks from the "Not So Mechanically Inclined".
Hey by the way did I blow that fuse when I tried to jump start it?

It's possible I suppose. It's been good for ten years, then blew when you tried to jump the old battery? Too coincidental--like the TV cops say. :D

Glad you got it going. My second battery on my 2003 is getting old. I should probably replace it before this coming winter.
