New Holland TC35D
Good morning,
My tractor intermittently makes noise both in forward and reverse when hot or cold. When this noise occurs, if I let up on the hydro peddle to a complete stop, the noise stops. Then I can move forward or reverse with no noise. This noise could refrain for 30 seconds-2 hours. The sound is like a rear scraper blade on a street in July.
I have changed the filters, topped off the fluid, drained the fluid and removed, cleaned and replaced reservoir suction filter screen also replaced a small thimble sized screen which was clean. None of these steps resulted in any improvement. Purchased and installed a new hydraulic pump (ouch $$$$) Still no improvement. Tractor is equiped with a mid-mount PTO which turns very, very slowly when disengaged. Rear PTO does not turn when disengaged. My dealer has gone out of business. What do you think? Thanks, Joe

I'm not really sure what it is, but the "rear scraper blade on a street" comment sounds familiar. My TC broke the cross pin (roll pin) and spun the coupler at the front of the driveshaft, which in turn finally removed all of the splines on the front pinion gear. Not a cheap fix!

I would check the driveshaft and couplers just to be sure. You have to remove the driveshaft cover to check them. Four bolts on the "wing" at the rear of the driveshaft allow removal. The cross pins (roll pins) sit in between the driveshaft and pinion (or drop box at the rear) and keep the couplers from sliding back and forth on the splines. If one of the pins is gone or has sheared it could allow the coupler to move, causing an intermittent noise like the one that you described.

I'm not familiar with the midpoint pto function, so your driveshaft setup may be a bit different than what I've described.
