Looking at buying a TC34DA think it is an 06.

Tractor has been used to cut grass and push snow by the way the bucket looks. My initial assessment is the tractor is reasonable sound for being left outside all it's life. and it only has 450 hrs on it.

Testing the HST works forward and reverse in all three ranges. It is not sharp or crisp when you step on the treadle. There was a hill to climb, approximately 30 foot in length and about 10 feet high a Fire grade but not a cliff. In "H" the tractor started up and then forward motion stopped with the treadle all the way to the floor. The engine did not bog down. tried this twice same result both times.

Shifted to "M" it worked slowly at 1/2 throttle. and in "L" no problems.

My question is two fold:
1) is this normal for a TC HST to not climb in H and not bog the engine?
2) Is there a Hydraulic by-pass in the HST circuit that keep sthe engine from bogging down?

In my opinion, I would want to have the HST pressure relief valve pressure checked. I owned a TC33 many years ago, but I cannot remember for sure what it would do in HI range. My Kioti will bog the engine down quite a bit going up very steep hills in High range. If I push up against an immovable object in HI range in 4WD with good traction surfaces, the HST relief valve will open, the engine will bog down a bit, but will not stall, and the wheels will not spin. Of course in MED or LO that is a different story. The wheels will spin or the "immovable" object will move!. Many trees have found that out the hard way.:D

Also, the HST is not like a gas pedal. The more you push it down, the higher the (hydraulic equivalent of a) gear ratio goes up, giving you less power. Took me a while to get used to.

K0ua, I thought as much just needed to confirm with folks with experience Now the question can I get to the pressure relief valve without disassembling the transmission?

I have a T1110 NH with Sensatrac and hydro drive. I understand the gas peddle analogy perfectly. It took time for me to get used to that too. My t1110 will begin to bog the engine as the force builds to the point of stopping.

Unfortunately the member most qualified to answer the what and exact whereabouts of your question has passed on. Jinman was the go to guy for all things New Holland. I cannot answer, but in generalities. In general HST relief valves can be gotten to and adjusted and there are ports for measuring the pressure on the outside of the transmissions. You will need to purchase a shop manual for your machine at this point. and a pressure gauge that goes to at least 5000 PSI. Most hydro's of that size are just under 5000 psi. I wish you luck Perhaps others on here with more experience can chime in. I believe your machine in those years was made by Shibaura (a Japanese company). You might check for plates on the machine to confirm or deny that. Later boomers were made by LS (a Korean company).

Thanks James,
With the low number if hours on the machine, I am also thinking that the Hydraulic fluid will need to be changed out as well. I have a great NH shop within 60 miles of me. They can take a look and see what needs doing without costing a fortune.

How do you like the Wicked Grapple?

I like the grapple a lot. Grapples are very useful.

I own a TC34DA that I bought new and it has about 175 hrs. on it now. If that was a pretty steep grade you were climbing it don't sound too far off what mine would do in the same situation.

Going to head to the Dealer for a Fluid and filter change next week and ask about the relief valve. Might have them change it out as the spring will have me working my little tractor pretty hard.

Cheers
