Hi Folks,
Its been some time since I have posted here on TBN. A very long winter here in upstate NY and a long spring clean up from our Ice storm. All Winter long I have smelled antifreeze but could not really pinpoint the leak. I bought a 3 pt chipper and have been working her pretty hard lately and after extended use It seems I have found the leak. Its actually blowing out the overflow hose and dripping on the axle, I saw it yesterday. I have about 420 hours on her. It does not overheat and the amount is very small. I did change the antifreeze in her the fall last year. I checked the level today and it is just covering the cooling fins, seems iam steadly loosing here now. I blew the radiator out a few weeks ago and checked the levels then and it did seem a tad bit low then but I wanted to see what it would do. My question is has anyone else run into this before and find a simple fix or do you think Im at the beginning of a blown headgasket. I have thought about replacing the cap first to see what it does. Any Advice would help. My busy season with the tractor is almost here and If I have to yank the head now I will but really might try any suggestion first. Does anyone know of a pressure tester that would fit my TC-30 ?
Thanks in advance

Chris

First I would pressure test the cap. If it tests fine i would put the pressure tester on the radiator and see if the system is building to much pressure. If it is under warranty I would take it to the dealer if it is not the cap.

My TD 95D is losing a bit through the heater core. Maybe a loose hose up there, I'm not sure. I haven't gotten around to fixing it yet and It's only leaking enough where I can just smell it is all. I've known about it since it spent all of it's first summer in the dealers garage to replace a 20 dollar fuel pump but I didn't dare tell them about it.

If you don't have a cab with AC and heat then I'd suggest first tightening all the hose clamps and seeing what happens. Most of mine were pretty loose when I got it and a few were dripping.

That's weird, I did the same preventive maintenance as you (changing coolant and flushing system) after I found small drops of coolant on the garage floor. I replaced a hose at the same time (leak was coming from connection to pump). I noted that the old coolant was initially orange-colored and then yellowish/orange towards the end of the draining process. I also use a 3pt chipper/shredder (Bearcat) and found that engine temp. now borders between green and red (unusually high). I think I am also smelling a slight weird smell from the exhust upon starting-up. Did I do something wrong???
