Aah, but it is a live PTO. I can stop, change gears (ranges), change speed, change directions, etc. without affecting the PTO. You just use the clutch to engage it instead of just pulling the lever back and having a hydraulic clutch engage it.

My TC29D is the same way. I have to move the hydro pedal back and forth to change ranges. Fortunately, I don't change ranges very often, so it doesn't bother me. I had to find out about this the same way you did - via this forum! New Holland needs to do a better job of writing manuals and training their sales personnel!

I was busy all day and just got back to you, Bird. I was going to call it a "Semi-live" PTO, but I thought I would be splitting hairs to do that. Truthfully, I kinda like the idea of a manually engaged clutch for the PTO, but it sure is handy to have differential braking on one side and the "go" pedals on the other side with nothing else to deal with. Thanks for explaining the details to me.

JimI, I'd have to agree with you that just doing away with the clutch and having a more convenient way to brake steer would be handy at times.

I wonder if they (the designers) figure that if you are going to be brake steering then you will also be using the cruise? Thats the only explanation I can come up with for the odd set up.
