Task Master 425A stopped running

Just for the record my Taskmaster 425A has only the spin on fuel filter. No sediment bowl, line runs tank, shutoff, IP, fuel filter , IP then injectors.

Correct. The banjo fitting in the lift pump suction has a screen in it. That is your primary filter (such as it is) (there also may be a screen inside the tank). The spin-on is the secondary filter.

Thanks Bob, Have never had that off and did not realize it was there. Must be a little bugger.

Follow up next day: Blew out the fuel supply line from the tank and fuel started draining fine, looked clear. Drained it anyway and refilled with fresh. Hand-pumped through the system until I heard the return to tank, then bled out the filter and IP. Tried to turn over the motor by hand to see if line#1 would squirt, but after 4-5 rev's couldn't see anything. turned it over with the starter until it squirted. Then I tried to find a timing mark that would relate to the pointer above the crank pulley. No such thing. Well, I said to myself, what the ****, if everything went back together right, it might fire up. Tightened the #1 high pressure fitting back up, hit the glow-plugs for 30 seconds...
Turned it over and after about 5 rev's, VAROOM!

Success comes form taking the time to do it right the first time and making good guesses. My Irish dad told me luck is the opportunity that you see and others don't.

Yep, most certainly is, and they can plug up pretty quickly sometimes. :)

Forgot to add: The failure was the IP's fuel rack; doesn't move at all. Before I removed the original IP completely, took off the cover behind the hand-pump, and sure enough the rod is frozen in place.
Since the cost of the new IP was under $500, I don't think it would be worth having a professional shop go through the repair. When time allows I'll tear it apart to see if it can be salvaged for the spare.

Steel and aluminum together are magnets for corrosion. If you find any corrosion when you break it down you can safely assume you have a bug problem.
Glad you got it running straight away.

Hi all. Im a new owner of a taskmaster tractor (426E)and always looking for helpful information. (8N owner before) . Alot of mention in this thread about changing oil in the IP. I see the breather location, drain plugs and fill plug but no mention of what type of oil should be used???

Typically, the vent doubles as the fill plug. There may be a hex head beneath the mushroom, that's where you turn it off. You may have a dipstick underneath. If not, there's a plug on the side of the housing. You remove that plug, pour oil in through the top, stopping when it comes out the side. They're not ALL this way, but that's a direction to start anyway. I use ISO 100 compressor oil in mine. Although many folks simply use the same oil they put in their engines; typically 15W40

There's a lot of bypass in some of these pumps though, which results in the oil getting diluted with fuel. I drained/refilled mine twice a year: spring and fall.

To answer your question, you should use either the same oil as in the motor, according to the manual. It works for me.

i use the same oil that i use in the engine.i also change the oil in it when i change the engine oil/filter.

I use 15W40 engine oil in mine and change it every 100 hours.

I change the engine oil every 50 hours.

Hi, I have the same problem with a Siromer 204 with a TY290X engine but this one will not start if stopped. Bleeding and generally messing around gets it going but if you pull the stop too hard it won't start again. Do you thing this is a sticky rack problem?

Sounds like it might be, alright. Have you flushed the governor housing with diesel and then put in new oil?

also check the stop linkage for sticking/binding

It was the stop rod stuck across, the clearance to the housing is quite tight. Flushed, refilled bled and running!!
