I see the same tarps everywhere and assume that there are not many manufactures. The blue, the green, and the silver seem to be the most common. I just bought a sliver one to cover my trailer and it seems a little more flexible in the colder weather. I've used blue ones on my boat and they seem to last only a year or two. Do the silver ones last longer? What's your experience?

There's all different qualities of tarps. The blue ones are flimsiest, and deteriorate quickly in sunlight. Some of the higher grades are treated to withstand ultraviolet rays.

A coupla years?? Man, they last a couple of months here in TX.

Silver does last longer, but not much here. Maybe through the summer.

Just my ignorant observations. Hope it helps, MP

Lowes has been selling tarps that had three different thicknesses. I bought the medium ones to see how long they last. The cheap thin blue tarps dont last long that is for sure.

When I bought the tractor in 2000 I bought a couple large tarps to cover the 4700. They are in a pile waiting to go to the dump.

The new ones are much thicker than the cheap blue ones so they should last longer. Some of the tarps where brown/silver or black/silver.

Later,
Dan

I haven't used any of the tarps but I have read where people can expect the good quality hay tarps to last 5 to 6 years or so. I would imagine this would vary quite a bit according to the area of the country you were in.

Mornin Harvester,
Ive kind of been under the impression that the green tarps were a cut above some of the others. The material was a bit thicker and they have reinforced rubber molded around the grommets so they wont tear as easily when the wind kicks up. They also charge you a bit more for them also ;)
