Tank repair improvement during Texas drought

Ok, so you live in Texas and drought conditions have taken your stock tank or pond down to nothing, dry. What to do? I was thinking of taking the good soil from years of run off and taking it to the garden and rototilling it into the soil there for next years garden. Then liming the whole tank to get it ready to restock next spring. Am I on the wrong track or are there any suggestions on taking advantage of a bad situation. Tank is about 1 acre and cattle will use it too.

In my experience the dirt you get out of the bottom of a pond isn't that fertile. It seems like it would be and it looks good, but I think since it is mostly silt that it just doesn't have any real nutrients in it. We dredged out a 1 acre pond a few years ago and now have a mountain of dirt in the woods about as big as a 1-story house. Aside from a few weeds very little has grown on it. Same story when we tried spreading it for top soil.

I've seen other ponds that have been dug out and often nothing will grow on the dirt pile. Maybe others can chime in on the reasons for this, but that has been my observation.

If we each start digging a trench and meet in Missouri, I'd be glad to give you some water. We've had about 10" of rain in the last month, one of the wettest on record. Mosquitos are driving me nuts, politicians stole all the money so they can't spray. I'd rather have my problem than yours though (not the politicians, the rain)
