Heavy duty hinges, self tapping screws, couple of padlock hasps, 3/4" plywood = redneck tailgate.

I thought of that! :D

At the rate this truck is falling apart the cheap net might outlast it. I noticed the entire box was moving today for the first time I said when I stopped to other truck driver "hey this truck has independent bed suspension..it moves by itself" as a joke. Then he said "naw it just has only one bed mount left!"

Or, remove tailgate, screw two stake pockets on the vertical surface at the end of the bed. Build a stake panel to stick in the pockets. I would tie the stake panel to something in case it would jump out of the pocket on a pothole.
