Tachometer hour meter Stopped working - Yanmar 2310D

I need help please.
Last year a forum member kindly sent me a workshop manual for an almost identical tractor, YM276D
However I can't seem to find any info or where to look ... what may have caused the tacho/hour meter to stop working

Is the tach cable drive? You may want to search this forum for past members that have had the same trouble.

Your tractor has this gear unit mounted on the front of the front gear cover. You can see it on the top cut a way drawing on page 220-05-1 in your manual. Yanmar Tractor Parts TACHOMETER DRIVE UNIT I don't know just how hard it is to access the tach on the 276 but you probably need to detach the cable from the tach and see if it is ok. If you can turn it by hand while the drive end is still engaged it is broken.

is it still firmly screwed into the back of the tac? mine got loose one time and the needle was jumping around like crazy. just a small little snug up and it was back to normal.

This instance is most likely that the mechanical cable that rotates the tach is disconnected, or less likely, broken.

I'll add for somebody's future reference that I resolved a tach that was jumpy and screechy, by taking it out of the panel and dripping a little bit of graphite lock fluid around the rotating part where it enters the device. It has operated flawlessly in the two years since.
