T5070 hard start issues

Help my new to me tractor won't start or has a really hard time starting. Ran it out of diesel, refilled ,purged bolt right on top of fuel filter, And started right up. but ever since then it has a really hard time starting have to crank a whole lot and sometimes it bites sometimes it takes a while pumping fuel pedal. It usually would start right up after that, but now it doesn't . Don't even know where to start looking.

You could still have air in the lines. Follow the manual's purge sequence in order. make sure you run fuel at each point until bubbles cease to pass.

Pumping the foot throttle just makes you feel better. Purge the air from the system.

Now it won't turn on unless I give it a little starting fluid

It requires starter fluid just to turn the key on? I don't understand. Do you know how a diesel engine operates?

Starting fluid is NOTrecommended for a diesel engine. Does your tractor have glow plugs? Do they work?

The do's and don'ts of starter fluid is not a blanket statement.

The T5070 uses a grid heater to heat the air as it passes through the intake. Some Diesel engines include a starter fluid injection system right from the factory. I have this "ether injection" cold start system on a John Deere backhoe. Using starter fluid is a common diagnostic practice. Regular use is not recommended and not on engines with a preheat system as it could cause a fire.

Yeah I know starting fluid is not recommended but it's a common practice to diagnose or discard if engine will turn on or not. Anyways back to the problem once it turns on it will fire back up/ if turned off.

When you say the engine is turned on, are you referring to starting the engine?
