new holland T1520
I have a New Holland T1520. Has 103 hours on it. It is about 3 years old.
Today I went to go use it and had no hydraulics to the bucket. Finally got it working intermittently, and was able to get it raised enought that I could use it to lug firewood before it quit. When I went to head to the wood pile, there was no steering. You can keep turning the steering wheel forever. Hydryualic levels are fine.

It will drive with no problems, as long as I do not need to turn!

Also, the 3 point hitch will neither raise or lower.

Now a few weeks back, while I was driving it, the same thing happened, but after a few "what the hecks: and a lot of "oh $#its," it started working fine. Never gave it another thought. I moved it about a week ago with no problems.

Nothing ever breaks when it is warm and comfortable outside.

I am thinking the hydrolic pump but I am purely guessing. Any help in the right direction is appreciated.

I am assuming since you are hauling firewood it is cold where you are. it sound like you have moisture in your hyd. oil and the moisture is freezing and plugging your hyd. filter. Have you ever changed your hyd. oil.

Yes, it was really cold today here in Ohio (akron\canton area). About 3 above this morning and not much more than 10 at midday. I changed the oil and filter at 75 hours and that was this past spring around June.
However, when I was playing with the front bucket today, I did disconect the quick connects and hooked them back up. I was haveing trouble reconnecting one line and some fluid did leak out. I did notice that the fluid seemed very thick and viscous whereas the fluid on the dipstick looked more normal, if that makes any sense.

I will try and throw a tarp over it and get a torpedo heater and see if some heat helps in any way. Your water in the fluid makes sense as at one time you could hear the pump trying to work and then nothing.

Now the question would be how is the moisture, if that is the problem, getting in???

Condensation from temp changes is probably the culprit. using your tractor for brief periods could also cause it. The fluid never really gets warmed up. If it is a gear tractor and sits out side check the rubber boots on the shifters.

Good call on the ice build up. About an hour under a tarp with the torpedo and we are up and running.

It is a hydro, but I do not use it all that often, 103 hoursin 3.5
years. It does sit outdoors though. I will be changing fluids and filter again when it warms up.

Thanks for steering me in the right direction. May your football team win today (as long as it is not the Jets).
