Synthetic hydraulic fluid

Any opinions/experience regarding synthetic hydraulic fluid?

This topic has been discussed at length in numerous other threads... suggest you search on "hydraulic fluid synthetic". Some love it, some say why bother. Some say it is only useful in very cold weather areas. I use SUDT which is NOT synthetic, although some think it is, but is certainly expensive.

I am familiar with the debate. Maybe I should have been more specific as I wonder if my ASV SR80 can use a generic hydraulic fluid? The only recommendation the manufacturer has is their own brand (Posi-Lube).

Unless your in some very extreme enviroments I would stick with a good high quality conventional oil. Group II base stock hydraulic and UTF oils perform very well in all but the most extreme conditions. Start a regular scheduled used oil analysis to monitor the oils condition and use it to gauge your drain intervals and condition.
