Syncro-range Transmissions

My buddy has been having some issues with his 3020 syncro-range. I took it for a ride today, and it feels like the shifter has gotten very sloppy, sometimes not going into gear. If you put it in park, then try it again, it goes in. Linkage problem? I don't know too much about the trannys in these new fangled tractors, as I'm a JD 2 cylinder kind of guy. Are we looking at big bucks at the JD dealer?

The shift quadrants on dash have been known to get slack in them and cause shifting problems. Shifter probably needs some shims & bushings. and maybe shift rod adjustments.
