Is it necessary to use the clutch to shift from forward to reverse and back without clutching? The manual says it requires clutch operation. But...a friend was on it today and moved it back and forth several times without clutching and there was no gear grinding at all. I tried it once myself and it shifts just as well without the clutch as it does with it. Is the manual wrong or will this type operation eventually cause problems?

The glideshift doesn't require the clutch to reverse direction.
But the sycro shuttle the clutch should be used.

Thanks Vince. I thought I knew that and I have always used the clutch, but my friends operation of it alarmed me, then puzzled me. There must be some very good synchronizers in there, so I'll try to keep them that way.
