Today I hit a bumpy patch of ground on my Mahindra 2555 HST and that caused a tool bag to bounce around hitting my 4WD lever that changed the tractor from 4WD to 2WD. Afterwards the check engine light came on and there was a noticeable vibration that wasn't the before. There didn't seem to be a loss of power or anything else obvious. Maybe the bouncing itself caused the check engine light and vibration, but finding the tool bag on top of the 4WD lever sure seemed like a smoking gun. Does anybody have any experience with something like this and is there anything obvious that I can check before taking it to the dealer?

As long as all four wheels are spinning at the same rate I will go into and out of 4 wheel drive on all the Kubotas on the fly. Sometimes in the RTV I need to let up on the pedal to let the rear catch up to the front and slack the drive train to make the shifting out of 4wd easier but that is it.

Wondering if the bump stirred up crap in your fuel tank or something else as I see no reason for a check engine light to come on for shifting the 4wd lever.

As it turns out the attachment end of my top link got lodged under the platform and that was causing normal engine vibration to be transmitted directly to my seat. Fixing that also somehow made the check engine light go off.
