I see that article is dated 2012. What is the status of this today?

"" The fact that a Leftist minority group was able to convince a majority of representatives in the Swiss Federal Assembly to approve the measure is considered a major victory for Socialism and the push to strip individual citizens of the right to keep and bear arms."

Based on this I would guess it is still the law unless they voted to change the law in the last year...

Frankly, I believe we're seeing this tried from a different angle here in the US, as federal agencies are purchasing billions of rounds of ammo and thereby reducing public supply. Many dispute this claim but I still believe it has credibility.

As always there is a little more to the story..

The Swiss militiaman (all males up to the age of 34) can still keep his issued full auto assault rifle. (Sig 550) at his home but the government issued 50 rounds has been taken back due to pressure from the socialist party. He can still fire it anytime he wants with his own ammo. That is not prohibited, and they are not in any way prohibited from owning ammo. They are prohibited from owning hollow point ammo. And when his service is over, the rifle must be converted to semi-auto, if he wants to buy it to keep.
There was a move in their parliament to take the rifles back as well, I am not sure how that turned out.. Typical socialist strategy is pass anti-gun laws a little at a time. Just like we see here.
