I have convinced him. To just overhaul /restore his grandpa's tractor.
That continental engine should last him the rest of his life, just take care of it.
That seems like the best option. If he's looking for a fun project that includes grandpa's tractor then a swap might be fine. If he wants to keep grandpa's tractor original and useful, there's nothing wrong with that gas motor. If it runs now, I'd keep it as is. If he's trying to keep above water running cows, undertaking something like this seems like a bad financial decision. Not a huge waste of money or anything, just not a net positive use of money when it's all said and done.
If it were me, I'd keep it as is (assuming it works currently) and spend the money on something more pressing.
