you feel good when a job has the results you are looking for......makes it ok to spend the time and money that you had to......takes the sting out of high dollar parts....

Mega,

That was a great job, your photos really helped see what you were doing. It was great of that one guys getting you the seals you need!!!! You deserve a pat on your back, and a couple more cold ones.

Hey Mega,

Did you make that rear hydraulic hookup yourself?? Can you post a couple better pictures of them from the rear? Looks like you made a cheaper setup than the $1200 NH wants for a two valve setup.

An echo of others.... Hope I'll never have to do that, but it was great that you shared the play-by-play with all of us-- never stop learning! Thanks again-- WBB in NH (No, that's not New Holland....:D)

Mega,

I have been following your post and the one before this:http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/new-holland-owning-operating/136046-oil-leak-i-may-have.html

Nice job you should be real proud of your self and think I would have cried to my dealer begging for help.
Thanks for sharing your pain by taking the time to post with pictures and play by play.
I know I have learn a lot from this and I will check the bolts from now on.
I got a real kick out of your profile it says you like to tinker in the garage.
You have to fix that---YOUR NO TINKER --way to go.

Hey TCBoomer,

That was real cool of you pictures and seals --Good Karma---
I think a lot of us were touch by this and will do the same when we can.

Congrats on a fine job Joe...nicely done!! Bet it was a nice feeling when U fired it back up again! I was tempted to suggest U just clean the clutch disc instead of replacing it, but that $135 was probably well worth the piece of mind knowing its new and not have to worry about the possibility of any clutch chatter or whatever.

No problem with giving U the seals...I've been fortunate most of my life and giving back once in awhile does indeed...as Jonnylight said...spread the Karma around and maybe motivate someone else here to...pay it forward

Be sure to post back again after U put a hundred or so hrs on it to let us know if the leak is fixed.

Spring time is right around the corner, so happy tractoring...:D

It's all good:):) I just feel like a group hug coming:D.. Hmmm .. may be not. :D Jokes aside, Joe did all the hard work but all of us had some ownership in this work. That's what makes this site so great.

Thumper,

Yes I made that set-up myself for my homemade top-n-tilt system. I'll get some more pics for you. I thought I may have made a post about this on here a long time ago......mmm?

Thanks guys for all of your comments!! This is a great site and I really have enjoyed being a member here.

Thumper,

http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/customization/74761-tc24da-top-tilt.html

This should get you to my post about the valve. I've since changed the hoses on the cylinders such that the coupler is located on a short piece of hose coming off the cylinder vs. the coupler being directly on the cylinder.

Let me know if you would like to see some more. I may do a repost?

Thanks Mega,

I was thinking of something along the same lines but plumbing in where NH has their rear HYD hookup. Heck
I might just buy there kit, it would make it easier and look good also. So you just came off your loader supply to get your hookup.

Yeah, I just went from the loader valve where the supply comes in from the hyd. pump. It all went from there ending back it where it goes into the supply for the 3 point lift.

I just spent a few hours read this whole thread. Way to go mega me. Very informative and educational. Gives me a little more confidence to tear down the old 4000 I have. Once get a place to do it.. I have a garage, but right now it's so cluttered I have to go outside to change my mind.
I do have a couple of questions.
First what kind of camera do you have. Ya I know not tractor related, but I'm curious.

Second. Just how hard was it to get that nut off using the home made crows foot?

Wedge,

My camera is a Kodak Z712 IS. I'm really happy with the quality of pictures that it takes. My Dad has both same camera and some brand of a SLR camera. He states that the Z712 IS takes better quality pictures than his more expensive SLR camera does.

That sleeve came right off with the homemade wrench. It was snug but it broke loose easily.

I've kept quiet until now because I couldn't really add anything constructive. Well, now I can. CONGRATULATIONS! Great job! You and TC Boomer are a credit to self-reliance and abilities. I'm proud of you.:)

Well, it looks like I'm due to do the same job on my TC24d. I did a bunch of rototilling and on my home from dropping off the tiller I stopped at a friends house where Betsy dropped a lot of oil on his driveway. It's coming from in between the block and tranny. I appreciate the work you did on this post, I remember reading, so when it happened I wasn't overly suprised. I have almost 900hours on my machine. We'll see how it goes.

Thanks for the work, it will definitely be helpful.

Out of curiosity, did you ever get a dealer cost for the job?

Dave,

I caught mine early and was able to tighten up all the bolts with a good dose of lock-tite and have been lucky enough to stop the leak. It has been about a year if I remember correctly.

But I did check with my dealer, they figured 8 to 10 hours labor plus parts. Told me probably in the $600 range.

Good luck! I hope it works out.

Did you happen to find out what was going on? I wanted to reply sooner but I've had a lot of trouble staying logged in here when trying to post.

I'd be glad to help you out in any way I can.

My TC24DA has been leaking hyd fluid at the case for a couple of years now....last hydraulic fluid change I added some Lucas Oil Hyd Stop Leak and the leak seems to have stopped (for the time being). I've checked the case bolts and mine are not loose but my tractor has the quick release frame mount underneath for the 756c Backhoe attachment. This might give the tractor case more support or rigidity?!?! However, I'm sure it is just a matter of time before "splitting the TC24DA" is in my future....provided I own the tractor when it finally craps out!

A friend of mine has the same TC24DA model year and when his FEL stopped working as the result of lost hyd fluid and pressure he took it to the NH dealer for the same repair Mega & TC Boomer have shared here on TBN. $2500 and a month later he got his tractor back....it's leaking agin now after only 12 months! Thanks for the post...it will save many people a lot of money in the long run, I'm certain!
