Hi Guys
New name here, just getting in to this. Went to the NH dealer and after showing me a TC33D and it's attributes, I said he forgot one - Supersteer. He said he doesn't order them with Supersteer, they are more complicated, more trouble and more expensive. What say everybody? I don't see a lot about it here either pro or con. Any idea of how much more it is and if he is right or not?

Thanks for looking

Russ

I have a TC29 (same size) with conventional steering and find it maneauvers nicely in tight areas. And I do put it in to some tight spots while doing close residential backhoe work. For my situation I have to agree with your dealer. However your situation may dictate otherwise.

I chose the Supersteer since it has the Sensitrak clutch. This allows the FWD to be engaged, but only lock up when the rear wheels are slipping. As the theory goes, this is supposed to decrease turf scuffing. I also have a bazillion trees to go around.

I have it - aside from the sensitrac (which works great) it sure is nice to have when you get into a tight space.

I know I shouldn't be doing this. But exactly how many trees are a bazillion? And do you get dizzy having to go around all of them?

When I inqiured about "supersteer" before buying my TC33D the dealer advised against it if you would be doing loader work because of the extra weight on the front end was not good on the supersteer system??????? He said if your mainly cutting grass it is wonderful.

I do not know if it is hard on the supersteer, but when you do a lot of loader work, with a lot of weight on the loader and if I turn real sharp with the load, I have broken the bead on either of the front tires. Of course this is when I happen to be be going over a tree that is laying on the ground at the time. Head back with the partially deflated tire and go again.

You just have to watch with a heavy load in the bucket.

I really enjoy the supersteer as far as mowing around the bazillion trees that i also have.

I don't have it and have yet to have a situation where I needed it. I wanted to keep the price down and wanted to keep things more simple. I guess it comes down to how you will be using your machine and how much you have to spend. I have a garden tractor for the tight mowing around the house and I don't have too many trees to maneuver around away from the house.

I have it on my 35D.
Once u have it u will use it ALL the time.
I can turn around in a 2 car garage w/o brakes.
Just can't get over how sharp it can turn!

Russ,

I did not get it beacuse for my applications it seems unecessary. I have a lot of space to trun around normally. However, I will say that even the normal steering turns quite sharp.

Also in the TN range the S models (ones with super steer) are usually loaded. When I bought my machine the dealer had an almost identical unit on the lot with super steer and a few extra goddies (electronic 3-point, etc..). This was a used machine with ~300 hrs and they wanted several K more than for the new tractor I purchased!

Another concern is the loader. I think you could get into trouble with super steer by turning very sharply with a very heavy bucket load.

So bottom line is it depends on what you are doing; minimal loader work and tight spaces might make sense for supersteer.
