It has been a long time since I've been on TBN...Grad School, clearing land, new family additions, etc.. I learned alot about what to do, and what not to do from the folks on this forum, but I've met my match w/ supersteer...

I had a hose fail that ran between the two cylinders that actuate while you turn the steering wheel. I quickly called my good friends at the nearest NH dealer (Brim Tractor for all you NW guys..they're great), ordered the hose, got it in 2 days, and replaced the faulty part. The good news is that there is no more leak...bad news is there is no steering.

I'm assuming the issue is that I need to bleed the air out of the cylinders, and have tried to do that. I've yet to figure it out after a couple tries, so I thought I'd look to the NH experts here to help out.

The tractor is a NH TC45 DA w/ 700 hours.

Thanks for the help...

Shouldn't be any more to it than replacing the hose and cycling the steering lock to lock while maintaining a full steering reservoir. Steering has a dedicated pump and reservior, it is not supplied by the main system.

To do that would he have to get the front end jacked up to get the weight off the wheels ?
I think I would do that with the bucket, at least to eliminate the possibility that the steering is just compressing air and the load on the wheels is enough to resist that.

It's helpful, but not mandatory. If the cylinders go to the end of their stroke, air has no choice but to exit.

Agreed - "IF"
I had taken his "bad news is there is no steering" to mean that the cylinders are NOT getting anywhere near their ends, e.g. not moving - so ground resistance to the front tires turning seemed a very likely possibility.

Or the reservior is empty.

News to me...I'll trace the hoses, and fill the reservoir. I'll let you know what happens.

Thanks

I had that same hose fail. A hole was rubbed in it where it moves slightly against a sharp edge when turning to extreme positions. I went to the local auto parts store, and had a replacement made(10-20$). I took no special precautions installing it, and it worked immediately(downtime of less than 45 minutes). I did lift up the wheels, and stroke the steering both ways fully.

It is likely you have a secondary problem(as noted above). It is most likely a low oil level. I noticed it immediately, and it was a small(but sprayful) leak, so I didn't have that problem.

Good luck
Chris

OK, so both hoses had worn through together where they route up behind the radiator. The protective mesh appeared to have gathered and exposed the hose, but I do not know for certain. At any rate, both hoses will be here tomorrow, and I will be up and running w/ my beloved blue.
