Any ideas / experience with 2305 owners using a post hole digger? Which manufacturers sell PHD for sub-compact 2305 tractor size?

:welcome:
I'd be interested in that answer too. Seems it would need to be a long extension out from the tractor to get enough height for a decent depth hole and auger length.

Then, must avoid the problem of screwing it into the dirt and not being able to lift it out. Might even be a problem if it reaches out too far too.

Bro has that size tractor and is interested too.

There are units out there for the subs,
Frontier sells a Rotomec version the PHD100 which
is built for the sub compact tractors.
Their PHD200 and 300 models are for larger CUTS,
and they make a heavy PHD400 for larger tractors,
again I believe they area all Rotomec,,

Might be some on machinefinder..... ;)

Hi,

I looked extensively for a PHD when I had my 2305. In the end, there was no good solution due to the limited cat 1 3pt hitch. More specifically, it's the lack of ground clearance or height.

Granted, i was looking for something that could get down 4 ft, below our local frost line, for putting in some footings. If you don't need to get that deep, you may be able to find something that will work for you, more like 3 feet deep. It would be helpful to say how deep and maybe what diameter you need to go.

For my needs, I ended up using my 260 backhoe. Even though it upset more soil, it was much faster in our rocky new england earth than any PHD would have been.

Hope this helps

Thanks to all for your contributions -

So far I tend to lean toward Ensoll's conclusion that no PHD is designed/fitted for sub CUT machines such as the JD 2305. Rotomec avenue was a dead end - the model number poster included was not on Rotomec's site; perhaps discontinued... don't know. Saleperson I spoke directly with at Speeco "assures" me the "junior" version of their PHD is suitable for JD 2305.

Any reason to doubt Speeco sale reps??

It is denoted in their website with a JR starting the model number - I think it was JR7500. At any rate, I will keep the press on and perhaps order the Speeco if able to do so on condition it really works on my rig. Of course I'll post here if I find this PHD compatible with JD 2305.

again thanks for your inputs, all

Chris - yes the height/clearance of PHD boom versus length of auger bit is the sticking point. I need three feet holes here in western Washington. Workarounds proposed - physically shorten auger bit (cut /weld) but would also diminsh auger's depth capability and integrity; attach and detach auger bit at each post hole site (hassle) with rear wheels on small ramp to do so.

frontier post hole digger, PHD100, is made by ROTOMEC
and is built for the sub compact tractors.
according to the frontier compatability chart
(available to jd dealers)
the digger is compatible with the JD 1026R, (current model) and
since that comes from the JD sales info, it may be
conservative and fit a 2305 just as well, although there is
a little less power there.

here's their literature:

It's been two years since, but as i recall i was able to find some products that could reach down three feet for that machine. Of course, the type of soil you have will dictate what diameter you can run.

I hope the direction Dutch is pointing you turns out to be the solution. Please be sure to report back with the conclusion to the story!

I used a Hawkline PHD on my 2210. It would carry a full size auger and worked well. The tip would drag a little while transporting on some grade changes but never caused a problem.

The biggest issue for mine fitting wasn't the reduced lift height but the smaller distance between the top link and lift arms. This caused the boom to reach very steep angles when fully lifted. Had to remove the top link holder thingy but still had to be carefull because it would hit the metal cross bar if raised fully. Fixed that by drilling an additional hole in the main boom further towards the gear box to put the pivot pin in. You could tell it was a little big for the 3 point but it worked. Dug many a hole with it.

As far as digging depth, it would put the gear box in the ground, so about 4' 6". They make 2' extenders to go deeper if needed. You auger down, disconnect (leaving the auger in the ground), add the extender and keep digging. When finished, you take them off as you bring it up. Only used it on one set of holes and it wasn't as bad as it sounds!

No problems power wise with a 9" and 12" auger in my clay soil.

2210 is gone now and this is the only pic I could find with the PHD attached ( but no auger).
