Today's local news has the story of a 53 year old northern Michigan man who was found in a parking lot in Howell, dead from a self inflicted crossbow wound in his left chest. Police have determined it was a suicide because a suicide note was found at his daughter's home in downtown Howell, Michigan. An autopsy was being conducted, although police consider the case closed.

SAD, but a very unique way to do the deed.

Now that is strange! Heck if he wanted to go the "hard way" he should have used a slingshot.

Yeoooww...I believe he could have thought about that a little more? I used a 125lb crossbow for years? Not my first choice, for his action...Sorry he had not been diswaded from taking his own life. It had to hurt his survivors? I always respected the broadheads on arrows, and their results on animals..

ohhhhhh man....As a bow hunter i am extremly careful when using a crossbow. It scares me more than a gun. That guy had something wrong going on to do that to himself.

Ohhh makes me cringe just thinking of it. Used to bow hunt and have seen the damage a broad head inflicts.

As most of yous know crossbow "arrows" are called "bolts" most tend to be 20" in length.
Nowadays on a quality crossbow(Excals/Ten Points/etc) pull poundage averages between 150 to 225 lbs. Most are cocked by rope cocker or pull type crank. With 250 to 330 avearge feet per second.Granted if it was fired by oneself at arms length with hunting broadhead or a mechanical broadhead(even worse) it did not pick up full speed though very unfortunate, bloody, painful same results.
Like someone else said his loves ones must be hurting.
By info stated by thread starter he was obviosly aiming for his heart.

From what I've read, and heard, the guy had some financial problems, and everything got away from him. Sad story: whmi.com/news/article/13713
