I am looking for suggestions for a new 30-35 hp tractor to clear up around 2 acres at my house plus 120 acres that my Dad and I picked up to deer hunt. I have looked at the Cub 3200, Kioti DK 35 hp, Mahindra 16 series, and New Holland. I can get the Cub about 2 miles from me. John Deere, Massey, and Kioti about 30 minutes away. The New Holland, Kubota, and Mahindra about 1 hr away. All dealerships have service.

I am going to use heavy 5 ft bush hog, disk, and box blade to clear up trees and briars.

cdcj,
Welcome to the club. Well for starters any of the tractors that you listed will do the task that you want to do. The New Holland and the John Deere are great proven tractors. I'm parcel to the Kubota's though, as I truly believe they set the standard for the rest to follow, now saying this I did not intend to start a debate with which tractor is best. One thing you need to consider though, are you planning later on to add a FEL or backhoe to tractor? because If that's in your plans I would stay with the big three.

What's the reasoning behind this? I see no foundation for such thinking.

Well they are more expensive so they must be better...

The Kioti will give you more weight, higher capacities, longer warranty, more standard options, and the same orange paint for thousands less.

Of course I guess I am partial too! :D

The big question is Do you want a cab? Not many make a cabbed version in that size.

It could be that he is thinking that there is a greater possibility that the loader / backhoe will still be available a few years down the road from the original manufacturer. I'm sure the statement has nothing to do with the capabilities of other tractors / loaders / backhoes.

What do you need to do on the 120 acres. If just mowing you're going to spend a long time in the seat.

If you plan to use your tractor on that 120 acre parcel, you need to think through your requirements carefully. If you're cutting/maintaining trails and/or establishing food plots on that 120 acres, then 30-35 hp might be sufficient. If you're planning to do a lot of field mowing and/or tree removal, then a larger tractor may be better.

Remember to figure out which implements you're going to need before you commit to a particular tractor.

This would only be a valid point if one were going to wait 10 to 15 years before buying the loader/backhoe.

There are more options with the big three (or five), more attachment mfg making implements designed for the easy hookup.
Of course given the steel and a Bronson rock (Urban Dictionary: Bronson rock) you can always build your own.
