International 1066 Full sized JCB Loader/Backhoe and a John Deere 430 to mow with
I don't know first things about them (nice brand, trash brand...)

Have an International 1066 that has a MCV valve on it. I want to test some of the pressures on it.

Any brands to go towards and stay away from??

The IH should be standard size threads. I also have a JCB backhoe that has (I"m told) "British" metric....so if the gauge would do both, all the better.

Just about any glycerine filled gauge you will find will have 1/4 NPT male threads. You will need a high pressure hose to adapt from that to something like -4 JIC female then adapters to fit whatever you are testing. Consider a hose up to 6 longer or more so that you may observe the gauge from the operators seat of the machine. You will need a gauge that reads in the 0-1000 psi range for low pressure testing (MCV circuits) and another in the range of 0-5000 psi for hydraulic function circuits. Gauge brand is not critical.

I thought I read somewhere that the PSI numbers should be under 400 therefore, my interpretation was a lower PSI reading would be better (higher resolution)

??

Your choice. The next time you need a lower pressure gauge the spec might be closer to 500 and your safety margin disappears. A 500 psi gauge would work on the IH.

Edit: ASTM standards suggest observed values should fall between 25% and 75% of the gauge range. A 1000 psi, 500 psi or 600 psi gauge should perform satisfactorily to measure MCV pressure. Lube pressure would require a lower pressure gauge to measure accurately.

Um, my system bypass valve is set at 2,100 PSI (or there about on my MF at pump body) .. I would think a 400 psi system probably does not have much work ability....

Dale

It is regulated circuit pressure for clutch packs.

Not knowing much about this, I'm suspecting I was getting this confused with the other.

So, to help my ignorance.... have any brand suggestions? (prefer to stay away from China if that's possible anymore)

I can’t advise you on that because every time I have bought gauges I’ve bought on price and have yet to be disappointed. Spend as much or as little as you feel comfortable with.

I try and get a gauge where it will read in the middle for my anticipated reading. If I expect to see 500psi I would want a 1000psi gauge. As RickB said they are most accurate in the middle 25% -75% of their range.
