SUDT2 versus Universal Hydraulic Fluid

Art, going back to the older engines of the 50s, 60s and 70s, it seemed that they, as you stated, would start consuming oil as the oil aged. A change to new oil would often stop that useage until it too aged. I don't seem to see that as much with the modern engines. Another issue I've experienced with those older engines was they might drink one brand of oil and hardly use any if switched to a different oil

It still happens depending on engines nothing to do with the age! We had a new tractor a couple of years ago that after the first 1000 hours it would start using oil after about 100 hours on a 300 change period. Tearing into it we found that the rings gap on one cylinder were in alignment. The tractor had produced all the power it was supposed to have and do to the extended warrantee oil samples were taken every year. Nothing showed up at all as a bell ringer. After assembly we actually gained about 15 horsepower which was now well beyond factory specs.
The brands still make a difference in todays engines even with the tighter tolerances and better quality control. It might take a few more hours for it to happen depending on the engine as well as the quality of the lube.
You never know what we might find when someone makes a mistake!

I noticed an improvement or at least I think I did when I switched over to SUDT2 in my little BX1500. Seemed to smooth things out a bit. But then again when I was 17 I thought my car was faster after an oil change and a car wash, lol. The real 0-60 times didn't improve til I vacuumed it though.

I don't care who you are,,,, that's funny!!!! :D

I just swapped out my L3940 oil early at 200 hrs. so I could use it in my Case 310 that has always had cold weather warmup issues with the hydraulics. The real reason is because I will share the same dump trailer amongst both machines and didn't want to contaminate the Kubota with 10 weight hydraulic oil.

I can't wait to try it in the old 310 as the weather supposed to be below zero later this week. Can't say I'll be happy skidding and cutting wood at zero degrees. Maybe just sit by the fire and drink some beers.

I see Royal still advertises their special oil for Kubota. I wonder what they have to say in their defense of the phony oil complaints. I just bought 3 pails from the Kubota dealer and the label says Valvoline on the OEM Kubota container.

Manufacturer of high performance oils and greases for 100 years!

Hey Fred, how ya been??? How's that ole junk 3940 running??? :) I've lost track of the number of times I've talked with guys about that modification. You the man!!!

You talking about contaminating oil reminds me. I had those same thoughts when I did this change. First thing I gotta do is hook up to attachments that have the old oil in them. Contaminated my high dollar oil with the first use!!!! :)

Hi Richard,

-1 this morning. Too cold for me to start the old Case.

The bad thing about SUDT is when you have a hydraulic leak it sprays all over like thin blood.

Just sprung another leak on my Kubota, this time the WR Long third functions kit with Chinese hoses. Grrrrrrr' Fred

Fred, when I built my Grapple I bought hoses from Surplus Center. I've never had any problems with them. Not sure where they are made. I cut one and went to the local JD dealer and had a new one made. It blew the end off after a few hours use. I was very disappointed (mad). I paid 3 times as much for it as I did for the hoses from SC.....

Another thing about Hydraulic fluid. It permanently stains concrete, clothing, paint and anything else it comes in contact with. I've got a lot of stained clothing to prove that theory....

Have had a few cold mornings to cold start the Case 310 crawler with SUDT in the hydraulic tank. It's a 15 GPM pump with 1" lines through the main circuit.

What a difference, the hydraulics work very well down to about 0f but one morning it was -10f and the old G148 started right up as usual but the hydraulics were a little stiff, about 5 minutes warmup time required for comfort.

This stuff is great!

Regards, Fred

I have heard that SUDT2 makes the HST much quieter, I would switch if that is true. Can anyone confirm?

I switched to SUDT2 two weeks ago. HST is much quieter and controls are smoother.

Glad it's working for you guys. Sounds like results might vary a little. I'm content with my results. I'll change filters every year (300 hrs) but don't plan to ever change the oil.

Although I use SUDT2 I know the old tractors did not get here using Syn.
The right lube for the right job and conditions is the most important.
