Slip Clutch, well after th 3rd shear bolt in 30 minutes I sucked it up and ordered the $435 JD slip clutch, I am really surprised Weasler did not offer an after market slip clutch for the 513.....but maybe that is what deere had in mind. Will be interesting to see what manufacturers name is on the green slip clutch.

My 513 came with a slip clutch.

What are you cutting that causes the shear bolt failure?

JD told me slip clutch was a $100 option (10 years ago) and something else I forgot to mention was 513 has no stump jumper pan like my MX 7 or other larger mowers.

I have been sneaking by without the stumpjumper option on mine too. Wish I'd gotten it with the pan back in '96, but so far so good. Have most of my cutting is brush in the woods too.

The $430 clutch is here and I can now see why it is $250 higher than tractor supply. The end that connects to the gear box shaft is a collar sleeve similar to the shear bolt set up. The other end is a machined out yoke, which is a part of the main casting, that connects directly to the yoke in the u-joint of the telescoping shaft from the tractor. So now I have to tear the u-joint apart and they never go back together easy.

I took the u-joint apart this morning,,,,,guess what.....the cross is to small for the yoke on the slip cluth. Threw everthing in box and took to JD dealership. The only thing they can think of is the serial number of mower is the later version and maybe JD assembly line overlapped some parts. So they are going to order the other one and see if it has the smaller yoke. If that does not work then they tell me I will have to buy the complete pto shaft/slip clutch assembly. I did not ask for that price, I did not want to know. Maybe I should just put the stump jumper pan ($150) on and forget the slip clutch. Geeeeeeez where does it end.

JD called the other slip clutch is here and it also has the bigger yoke, so they tell me my 513 has an older style gear box pto setup that does offer a slip clutch that would have to be ordered piece by piece, not offered as an assembly, for $650........why me lord what have I ever done.........the $80 stump jumper pan is here maybe that will help the shear pin problem. Maybe I should trade the darn thing off or sell it.

Your trade-up idea might be the most painless.
