I threw myself a birthday party this past weekend, thought my fellow TBNers would like to see a few pictures. This was quite a load but the CK20S handled it well, only minor issue I had was briefly locking up the rear tires as I slowed down on a downhill to pull into the local hick bar:D, popped it into 4wd and all was well.

For the safely police-I had lots lots of lights on both trailers, all connected to the tractor and functioning correctly (brakes, running lights, blinkers, etc.) and never exceeded 10mph (tractor can't go any faster anyway!).

I was quite pleased with the pulling power of the tractor, I used low range when tootling around my property and my neighbors, and was able to use high range going down the road. The terrain was generally pretty flat but I used every hp I had on a few small grades, using low range for just one. Had about 30 people on board, figure about 11,000 lbs. for the entire rig:thumbsup:

If you had invited me we could have had 11,275 lbs. on there. Hay rides are fun.

The shiny things are wheel weights, aka gym free-weights which are slid onto a custom bracket made by michigan iron & equipment. Gym free weights are <$1 a pound at Walmart, purchased 200 lbs. (100 lbs. per side) for ~$175.

I just got the wheel weight setup, been thinking about painting the weights Kioti orange but haven't had the time yet.

You might consider me a 'youngster', I'm 27 today. Those were all friends and family, I encouraged everyone to bring silly-string and it sounded like they had a great time back there!

Wow... you should have been in 4x4 from the start, glad it wasn't a longer or steeper hill. Been there, Done that, have the soiled underwear for a reminder... Happy Birthday

sounds like fun, congrats on the birthday!

Had a friend that did a fall hayride for the church youth group each year. Staff made a mistake last year and invited the whole church (~1000 on Sundays). Several hundred folks showed up, parking was at a premium and the hayride was exciting. He described taking a trailer (probably overloaded) with his 2wd tractor... it had enough hp to pull the trailer, but going down a hill, too many on the back of the trailer and they had a ride. When they got back to the house, he traded out the 2wd tractor for a larger 4wd and put it in 4wd for the rest of the rides.

Thanks, it has been a great birthday weekend!

I wouldn't have taken such a load up or down any significant grades, 4wd or not. Not all the roads were dirt so I didn't want to leave it in 4wd all the time, in fact it was paved during the brief incident-I just leaned into the brakes a bit aggressively. No harm done! Maybe trailer brakes next year:laughing:

Well, it was that time of the year again last weekend. Did another hay ride this year, a little bigger yet even with two hay wagons this year. 40 people! Definitely had the little CK20S earning it's keep, couldn't have pulled much more without being in LOW range for the whole trip. As it was, I had to use LOW for the biggest grade (still only a few %) as the tractor was pulled to a stop in HIGH range. Still, traversed 4 miles in HIGH range with about 300' in LOW. Again, a MEDIUM range on this tractor would be fantastic, but I certainly don't see where people consider high range to be for highway use wihout any loads?:confused2:

40 people * 160 lbs. AVG (probably on the low side, I have some large friends ) is 6,400 lbs. Two hay wagons (2,000 lbs. each?). 20 bales of straw (40 lbs.?). About 11,000 lbs. total towed weight. Had as much weight on the tractor as possible, loader, wheel weights, full tank, me, etc., tractor was over 3,300 lbs.

Added 2 deep cycle batteries and an inverter + stereo this year playing country music. Had a great time and everything went safely and smooth. Stuck to a dirt road and had plenty of light on the tractor & wagons. I had everyone get off at the point where I turned the rig around because it was a decent % grade downhill to be safe. All hail the mighty CK20S!:D
