Did anyone else have trouble with equipment failure during the subzero temps that moved through il ?
My john deere 300 broke a connecting rod when I started it in below zero weather , but I plowed with it the night before

I can't see how the cold caused the engine to break a connecting rod, that's very unusual. Did anything else happen just before the failure?

My x728 with fuel injection is running too rich with black smoke out the exhaust until it warms up a little but I'm happy to say that it's been good otherwise.

Mike.

My tractor turned over 4 times before the battery went dead. Put on charger for about 20 minutes and fired right up. 9 below zero.

I'm not 100% sure it was cold weather , but I checked the oil level and it was good . I could've been just ready to go ? I don't know .

I suspect the bearing was starting to go and was "helped" by the slower oil flow due to low temps.
