should I buy a regular cat 1 size subsoiler or a smaller size like a xb model? I don't want to order it and then pay shipping if it doesn't fit. I'm worried that it may be to long to lift off the ground.

See if you can get the dimensions for the subsoiler you're looking at, and then see if you can carry that over to the tractor to see how it works out. Heck, you could even "mock" one up by building one from wood just to see how high it will pick it up. My guess is that it would pick up the Cat 1 version high enough, especially if you shorten the top link.

This is from a post I submitted a few months ago. I am not real familiar with your B7100, but maybe this will help. Mine is the full sized yellow model not the XB series.

I have been deliberating on buying a Middlebuster/Subsoiler for a year or so and wasn't sure what I needed even after reading countless threads on the subject. It got to the point that I had to make a move so I just drove to the local Tractor Supply with a tape measure and a few notes. Turns out that in my situation, owning a Kubota B7510 I don't have the height advantage on my 3 Point so I went with the KK Middlebuster because it was shorter. Just like the fellas said, the frame and bolt spacing is the same just the shank on the Subsoiler is longer.

With some scrap and a little torch work I fabbed a Subsoiler cutter that works like a dream on the Middlebuster frame.

Good Luck

The Rankin one is depth-adjustable which can help. For these low hp tractors the middle buster with a sub-soiler tip works just fine.

I built my own depth-adjustable one, some pics here:

As you can see not a whole lot of ground clearance.

One trick is you can pull the top link pin and let the tip swing up against the hitch to clear the ground for transport. Once you get to where you are going you just stand it back up and put the pin in.

I believe the B7100 is about the same size as my TC18. I use a KingKutter XB series middle buster on mine.
I have some pics of mine in my photo gallery.
