I was up at the church mowing the woods, and ran over an old pine stump, or what was left of it. The heart pine center punched thru my left rear tire and now I have to figure out what to do about it. It was about an inch in diameter where it went into the tire, in the flat area between the bars on an Agri tire. What is the normal procedure for fixing one of these? Call a tire guy and let him worry about it, or make a swing for the kids out of it.
I have additional tires, but I hate to put another on, and run the risk of destroying another tire. Anything I can do to extend the life of this one, at least until I get thru with the woods clearing will probably be better, at least for my piece of mind.
Any suggestions before I go up to the church and drive it home on the flat?

Is this on the big tractor or the small tractor. On the small one you can change the flat, My son and I just did on a 11.2x24 ag. It's a little work.

Otherwise around our weekend place there are a couple tire stores that willl make service calls. $75-100 depending. It the hole is that big then they will probably want to replace the tube.

Good Luck, I hate flats. Was using my neighbors Ford 4630, Cost me $75 for the fix.

A 1" stump through the tire is not happy news. Assuming a tube is involved - it will probably have to be replaced. You may be able to salvage the tire with a boot. If you do that I would advise double booting - one of a generous size for the hole overlaid with another quite a bit larger. My brother does on farm ag tire service out of his tire shop. He don't like to boot traction tires because they don't last long, but when the customer wants it he does the double boot routine.

I would at least try to go with the boot fix. There are several different types of boots that a well stocked tire shop should have. You will need to look for a shop that does Ag or logging tires. Others might have the correct boot, but they are less likely to.

I would also go the boot route and add a tube as well.

Okay, what is a boot?

It is a thick reinforced rubber patch that goes on the inside of the tire. Some boots have plugs attached that are inserted into the hole.

Sandman, it will be important to assess whether the tire is broken or primarily just pierced. Something sharp that tapers up to an inch may not break many tire cords whereas a 1" stob will truly break the tires carcass and drastically shorten the life of the repair.

Well I went up and drove it home on a flat tire last night. Not happy in doing that, but didn't have much choice. My spare tires don't have the correct size bolt holes and will need to be drilled out. The alternative was to leave it outside at the church, and fix it today. Not my idea of a good move, so I went after it.
Since I am clueless about what a boot should cost (but do know what a boot is, one up on the Doc, lol) and the expected lifespan of one in hours of service, plus what a reasonable cost to break the tire down and install the boot should be. All of these questions are to get an idea so I don't get taken when I call to have someone do the work. I am not set up to do tractor tires, and don't want to start.
I also noticed the left steering cylinder is leaking, rather profusely, which is what I just had fixed on the other side last weekend. Mowing for free seems to be getting expensive.
Thanks for all the help,
