I saw a thread in the recent past about pouring some concoction into drilled holes in a stump that accelerated it's demise. It was a two step process whereby the second step was to ignite some 'fluid' poured in the holes and it smoldered it's way through the stump including roots! Well, I'll be dipped if I can find it. Was it on TBN? I will look else where, too.

Stump removers basically add nitrates to accelerate the rot. I read somewhere about Amish trick to pile up manure over the stump for a year or so.

Sorry can't help you with your missing information:(

Never tried it myself, but have heard of people pouring diesel down into the stumps for a few days until saturated and then igniting it.

yep - BT-DT. Used metal jar lids loosely nailed to the center of the pine stumps. Punched a couple of additional small holes in each and filled them with diesel. Set up about 200 of these to clear out an area where I'd cut a stand of pines. Every few weeks I'd try to lite them. They'd burn just about as long as the fire had diesel in the lid, then go out.

After 2 years of trying to lite them and get them to burn, I finally had 'em ground out with a stump grinder. Maybe I was doing something wrong? But I sure didn't have any luck trying to burn out stumps.

I do have some more to get rid of, so if there's a trick, I sure want to learn what it is.

I think it's all in the dance after one poors the product into the holes. I believe ya have to dance around in a skirt made of the same leaves {or needles} as the stump you're trying to get rid of. I believe it also helps if ya get a bunch of friends over to join in on the dance.

Yeah, nitrates. That was one of the ingredients. As for a skirt made of the pine needles/leaves...that may work, as the last method obviously didn't. Grass skirts....well, better'n nuthin'!! Maybe there should be more than just the ten of us???
