Per Steve (and my notes) at Iowa Farm Equipment 563-946-2121 ext. 104 the Shaver brand 3 point hitch unit is $4999 for the 24" and $5999 for the larger 34" cutter. They are made in IA.
He said the better value today is for the Work Saver brand (IL built) and that it makes the cut with less vibration but the other one is still fine.
The Work Saver is 2" larger with the 26" selling for $3899 and the 36" goes for $4699 at their company but the retail list prices are about the same for both units.
He said if he was using one either brand would be fine. If he was paying for one to use himself it would be the Work Saver.
He states many get 200-400 stumps before sharping the bits and they also sell them as a replacement item.
I plan be down I-80 in a few weeks and we were talking the sales tax difference picking up at the store vs. shipping it to KY. The shipping cost was less than the sales tax in my case so driving the PU so I could haul it home would not make $$$ or comfort sense.
If one had many stumps the grinding over digging with a backhoe/FEL could make sense but $5K is a lot of money to be setting most of the time. At $2 per inch of stump I am not sure it would be a big money maker. That would be determined by inches per location I guess.
