Stump Chipper

Ten feet deep should be plenty. lol

I had a Vermeer that would do a sx foot stump staying in one location and now a little Steiner mounted one. Around here, it's immensely valuable to have a grinder where you can observe the cutter wheel, for you can bet that almost every tree has pushed stones out of it's way while growing. I have also recently realized that having a leaf blower handy is invaluable.

Sorry... 10 inches... Now, try and leave that one alone... ;)

Since most trees, especially larger ones grow in more of a hump, it is always somewhat frustrating how much one has to grind, along with chasing roots to get the area level again. No point having the gear and doing half a job. Just takes more time.

Some great information here. Thanks to all that contributed.
I'm ordering a Woodland Mills chipper now.

So the Woodland Mills chipper was actually in stock and they said I should have it in ~2 weeks depending on the shipping company. We have ~60 acres of forest and there are sumps absolutely everywhere. Can't wait to start grinding stumps and get the place looking more like an enchanted forest instead of a picked over tree lot.

I've had my Woodland Mills WC68 for over a year and have had no problems at all! It chews up whatever I've put into it, although I use most of anything with size for firewood, I do find that I chip bigger stuff every time I use it because it takes a lot of brush to make any size of chip pile! I've only used it about 3 - 4 times a year so far and it's usually only being run for an hour or 2 at a time - so I can't state anything for how reliable it will be - I can only hope that it continues to be as stable forever as it is now.
My only wish is that it cut somewhat larger sized chips and reading on here someone said that feed speed might make a difference, so I'm going to play with that next time I use it. The manual does not show clearly how to change knives out and I'm dreading that task whenever it comes due, but so far it hasn't been needed. I'll just learn how to do it when I need it done.
I'm confident you'll really enjoy your new chipper - I sure enjoy using mine on the few times it gets used. Makes chipping actually fun!! Enjoy. Greg

Apologies - I realized after I posted that we are talking "Stump" chipper, not "Wood" chipper! I don't have a stump chipper (on my list of wants but not yet gotten) I was referring to my woodchipper. But since it's from Woodland Mills I'm sure it will work and be just fine for you.

Got my stump grinder unpacked, inspected, measured & cut the PTO shaft & safety tube and did all the pre usage checks on it today. It was just starting to get dark when I finally tried it on my first stump. Not as easy as it looks in the videos. It's very hard to see how low the blade is from the cab of my tractor.

I was thinking the same thing and was opting for someway to hook up a backup camera to avoid the stiff neck.
