Student Loan Debt?

I live in Michigan, which is a high tax state that provides no benefit like that. I’ve learned that if we lived one state south in Indiana we could have free tuition, and lower taxes also. And Tennessee is where my wife and thought we’d like to retire to.

With more kids currently in high school and middle school, I’m thinking I should have considered moving towards the south sooner in my life……
That Indiana "free" tuition has some pretty stringent qualification hurdles, including income requirements. ;)

I have a friend that is married and they were not able to have children. The fostered 2 siblings, and foster kids automatically qualify regardless of income. They saved all of the money that the state gave them for fostering the kids with plans to give it to the kids after college graduation. It's worked out well for those 2 kids. :) Loving parents and financially debt free after college.

I'm seeing a lot of outflow in my circle...

Sometimes it's hard to realize options exist if willing to relocate...

I still don't get mandatory dorm requirement and meals...

There has to be some exceptions...

Or maybe the new normal?

Daughter if a friend did first two years community college with transfer in mind... she faced no third or fourth year housing or meal plans...

Maybe that's the work around?

You could see it in two separate terms; and maybe it's a bit of both? First is it might be a way to subsidize the charity cases, if it was just voluntary, I doubt any would be able to have dorms or cafeterias. The second reason, is they want to make sure the students aren't in a situation where they can't survive there? Maybe it's a bit of both?

Wow, snd I thought it was cheap at my University ($5,000 US)!
They fund tuition only, but not fees, supplies, or residency. It does supply to any in-state university or college. I think it’s the best use for lotto money.
