I'd look at the thread to confirm which way the nut should be turned to loosen. I can't tell you how many times I took it for granted and was wrong, so when I doubt I look at the threads first.

Looks like reverse thread so you'll need to turn it clockwise to loosen the nut, running it up the rod.

Great Picture GravelRoads!! This shows the left hand thread and need to back the nut up the thread by turning to the left. It may be jammed tight, and require a bigger backup and cheater pipe. It always helps to look close at the threads to get which way to run the nut.... I once had a Toyota dealer try to jam the nut on an alignment linkage even tighter and had the torch out trying to heat it up as well. The "bite" marks left on the steering linkage clearly showed they were trying to turn it the wrong way. I havent been back to that dealer!

Right. They do look like left-handed threads. Maybe you just tried turning it the wrong way (and by applying hammer and wrench tightened it very tight.) With those welded handles on the body I think you SHOULD be able to put some immovable lever in there (like a crowbar) and apply "opposite force" with a good large open end or crescent wrench and loosen that sucker. Or, like I said earlier, pull it off the tractor and put it in a big vise.

Third arm is I am correct, it is made to turn the barrel with it connected to an implement. Might find hooking up to one helps you break the nut loose. One end is left and the other right hand thread for all it is a big heavy turnbuckle. You can get yourself in trouble doing much turning of one end only as you need both male ends screwed in the same amount so you have full adjustment of the third arm. There is most likely a mark in the threads to let you know when you have unscrewed it as much as safe.
