I attemped to replace the 4110 hydraulic fluid and filters and couldn't get the square drain plug out. It has 1300 hours and probably has never been opened. I put vice grips on it and banged on it but I decided heat from a torch wasn't a good idea. Anyone know where I can get a square drive wrench for the drain plug?

Once I get it off, is there a generic size replacement for it?

Also, the fuel filter is hard to get to with a FEL. Any suggestions for getting that off with minimal swearing?

Greg,
I'm not sure about the size of the square head but you might be able to find an 8 point socket at a auto parts store. Or a few tricks I've used on other square head plugs is using the female end of a socket extention over the plug and a large wrench(15" cresent was my choice /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif) on the male end or possibly a stud extractor would work and the last ditch, backs against the wall solution would be drill(have a drain pan ready!) and EZ-out. Well thats my 2 cents, give your post a few days, there's a lot of sharp people on this website I'm sure someone's had this problem and has a better idea. Best of luck

just get a high quality tight fitting open end wrench, you may have to beat it on the plug since you already used vice grips, then beat on the wrench with a small slege hammer. it should come right out.

There are sockets made specially for removal of this type of plug. You can get them from Snap On, Mac, etc. , you might be able to get craftsman as well. Good luck!

Levrage is what you'll need not banging. If you can get a pipe wrench on it I have had luck with pipe wrenches and the like with a pipe on the end for leverage.
