Strange things your pets do...

This one wasn't my pet and it wasn't strange or funny... it did P*** me off though. One of the disadvantages of living on a lonely backroad is that people think it's a good place to dump their unwanted animals, whether it's squirrels, woodchucks, or domestic animals.

On Sunday my neighbors were telling about a kitten they'd seen hanging aroung my chicken coop. I didn't think much of it at the time but...
Last night I got in late so put the turkeys in by flashlight, with the help of Ruger. First thing this AM I went down to let them out and check on the chickens...
That kitten was laying next to the henhouse, dead. I suspect that it starved to death.
Anybody who chooses to get an animal needs to understand that they owe it to that pet to care for it. Among other things they need to spay/neuter it unless they are a bonafide breeder and know what the **** they are doing.
They also need to know that it's a lifelong commitment. If situations change, at least grow a set and take care of it properly; find it a home, leave it with a shelter, or at the very least take it to a vet and have the animal put down.

I am not a cat lover yet I wish that I had put some food out for it, and perhaps a Havahart; then taken it someplace where the animal would have been cared for.

They say there's a special place in **** for people who will abandon an animal; I wish we could give them a taste of that in this life.:punch:

I'll get off my soapbox now.:soapbox:

I have seen turkeys in my backyard attack a cat that was stalking them...much to the surprise of the cat. It's not inconceivable that a mature turkey (or turkeys) could kill a cat or a kitten. I know the one I saw would have been in deep stuff if he hadn't decided that discretion is the better part of valor.

I have a red bone hound and yellow lab mix who never learned to lift a leg.... He pees straight up the center of his belly/chest, looks down at the water fountain going past.... and yep! He starts drinking from the water fountain! It's embarrassing!

I had a cat who liked eating soup getting the ingredients out of the plate with his paw. He sat in front of the plate, ate all ingredients from his paw, and then drank the liquid. It looked strange and funny :)

Never had one that ate soup, but I did have one years ago that would eat 'most anything else. One night I was eating corn on the cob and the cat was being a pest so when I was done I held out the cob...cat grabbed it out of my had, and ate most of it! It liked pickles too. One other time it got into a loaf of bread I'd left on the counter...never heard of a cat eating bread, but this one did.
Then again, I've had others (one of my current ones is one) that has little or no interest in table scraps or other human food.

I used to say at my Moms when I had projects in the city. Took my Cat with me. I never had a schedule of any kind, but the cat would typically sleep all day and then somehow know I was about to come home. Like fifteen minutes before. Long before it would hear my truck or anything. THEY know waay too much! lol

We had a cat that would frequently push a loaf of bread off the counter so the dog would tear it open and they both would eat it. Teamwork!

Every morning I get up, take a thyroid pill, and feed the dog. Every evening I take a statin pill, give Ruger 2 thyroid pills, and feed him. It's become so routine that he can be asleep in the other room, but when I open the pill bottle he come out and stands there, waiting to be fed. He doesn't even fight the pills (much) anymore...

Cats seem to have some inbred fascination with boxes.
No need spending money on store bought toys, jusy give them a cardboard box, or even a paper grocery bag.

My shepherds the easiest dog I've ever had to give a pill to. I think she's a little druggy though. She really liked her pain pills after we had her spayed The second or third night we had her home after surgery, I gave her, her pill wrapped in a piece of lunch meat. Pill hit the floor and I figured we would be in for a chore getting her to take it.

She looked down, saw the pill on the floor, snatched it up and then I heard a crunch

She gets some pills on occasion for heart burn when she gets an upset belly. Usually after the grandkids slip her something that she shouldn't have. I'll balance the pill on my finger, hold it out to her and she will take it.

She actually woke me up the other night and walked me to the kitchen and looked up to where they were stored asking for one.

Cat comes in from outside, in thru cat door and comes sit on me while im in bed. At 5 minutes before alarm goes off.
We had a large cat and pet racoon when I was really little. Cat absolutely hated the coon.

Cat was sleeping on my dads lap when in comes the coon. Climbs up onto the couch. Travels along the back and then sits on the armrest next to dad.

Coon then reached out and started petting the cat. Cat sat there in dads lap purring getting petted by the coon for about 10 minutes or so. Coon finally got tired and started pulling the hair instead.

About that time the cat wakes up, turns into a big puff ball, freaks out and takes off after clawing the dickens out of dad

In first grade my classmate's older brother brought one in for "Show and Tell", walking it around the room on a leash. I can't envision that happening now.

My folks had a Boston Terrier named "Frosty". He was a great pet, but had an unusual and annoying habit. Being boys, my brother and I were not all that tidy, and sometimes we left our clothes strewn around the room for Mom to pick up. We learned to pick our shirts up after Frosty joined the family; he liked to take them under the bed and suck on the buttons; most of the time the buttons ended up being chewed off. He would also do the same thing with a sock occasionally. We surmised that perhaps we got him too young, before he was weaned, and this was the result.

We have a basket next to the throne to keep reading material in. Our calico likes it too.
