Another first for us. Our "puppy" is a black lab, about 2 yrs old now. The other night was our first evening fire of the season in our backyard fire pit. This lunatic pup started chasing around the embers that would occasionally pop up out of the fire as it crackled away in the pit. At first we couldn't figure out what he was going after, too early for grasshoppers or frogs. He was chasing these embers and couldn't figure out where they went when they went out. The other 3 labs were looking at him like he lost his mind, but eventually the small yellow started following him around, trying to figure out what the game was.

I've never had a dog interested in the fire or the embers before.

Neighbor had a boxer that had to lick everything.

Dog walked up to the wood stove and licked it Dog yelped, went and drank a bunch of water and went around doing his thing.

2 hours later, the dog walks up to the wood stove and........ licked it again

He ended up having to put a child barrier around the wood stove.

I believe it. We had a boxer once. Very gentle by nature, but dumb as a box of rocks.

Son has two boxers. A male and female.

Sweet dogs, but I think a rock is smarter

I'm usually covered in slobber after leaving their place. Those two love their grandpa.

I saw a lady out walking her Great Dane recently. Dog had a splint on her tail so I asked if a door closed on it. Lady said Yep, third time, same door. What’s her name? Grace. :ROFLMAO:

That's a lab! The only thing they like more than food is attention.

Our dog, Toby, howls when the phone rings. He usually doesn't stop for a couple seconds after we answer it. You can imagine what the caller thinks when we say Hello and he's howling in the background.

Vegas (my GSD) wont eat unless I make her do a few tricks and reward her for it, then she will eat but not before. If I don't she give me a look saying I didn't deserve this ...

I wish I had an easy way to directly uplaod videos, as I have countless hilarious clips of our Boston terror. The best are the sneezing fits that start whenever she's trying to catch a thrown bone or Frisbee, and gets bopped in the nose.

The other thing that cracks me up is their tendency to go flipping end-over-end, due to their head being nearly as heavy as their body. Chasing a ball, they will almost always end up fliping themselves over the ball.

My current rescue, Pyr and herding dog, has phenominal hearing. We live more than a quarter mile off the paved road and even if we are watching television she can hear a car pull off the paved road onto the dirt road. She immediately goes to the front door to see if they are coming to us.

Our German shepherd tattles on my wife

The other day though, she got everyone in the house to go for a walk with her.

Gypsy went over to my wife first, and nudged her. She then went to my wife's shoes, and then nudged her leash that hangs by the door.

So my wife got up to put her shoes on and take her out for a walk.

Well gypsy went over to my wife's sister who was stretched out on the couch. Nudged her, and then pointed at her shoes

She made sure they both went walking

We had a weiney dog that really didn't like deer.

We were riding in the truck, and all of a sudden he perked up and started growling really low.

He was focused down the road and off to the right.

We got about a 1/2, mile down the road, and the woods opened up to a field and farm.

He was focused and as we were going past the farm, we saw that a farmer had a deer strung up from a hunt.

He was focused on that deer hanging in the distance.

I couldn't get over the strength of his nose.

I have to hold the spoon down for our GSD to lick off the remaining canned dog food and ask the madam if her dinner meets her expectations

She will not eat until she gets to clean off the spoon

I throw in the last part when we have people over. It's usually good for a few laughs.

We forgot to tell my mom about the "Toll Bone" when she dog sat for us.

She gets a dental treat before bed.

The next morning I remembered and called my mom to tell her about it.

She told me she figured it out last night.

Mom was getting ready for bed, and gypsy went over and sat next to where her cookie jar was. When mom asked her what she wanted, she nosed the jar. When mom inspected the contents of the cookie jar and saw the dental treats, she figured that was her routine and gave her one. After she got her treat, she headed for bed.

You've told stories about him before, sounds like a pretty smart dog. Well, he IS a GSD. ;)
Is he related to the one which raised your grandson and taught him to walk?
