straight rows, how to

/ straight rows, how to #21
I was asking myself the same question the other day when my neighbor and I were discussing how to plant a couple dozen avocado plants in his back yard. I had pretty much decided to use string and either chalk, sand or paint (probably a can of spray paint for the number of trees we are goign to plant). Run the string along the row lines, measure the spacing with tape measure and paint 'X' marks across the string where you want the trees or drop a handful of sand or chalk. Move string to next row and repeat. You probably would not have to measure more than the first two rows if using paint as you could aim for the marks on the string after the second row :)

Dig the holes with post hole digger by aiming for the X (or pile of stuff) and follow up with trees. I have no clue wheter my idea would work nor how would work with the size install you are talking.

Baler twine is pretty cheap string and lots of it in a roll.
