I have access to a 50 gallon plastic tank meant for a sprayer that I was wondering about using for diesel storage. I can't beat the price, but the whitish translucent plastic worries me. Seems that I've read about stored diesel growing algae or something??

I store my fuel in a 300 gallon poly tank and have had no issues in 3 years of use. I do add PowerServe to the tank while the co-op fills it.

Put the tank under a roof and paint it black and don't worry.

The translucent poly tanks are usually not very UV resistant and will get brittle. If this tank has been kept out in the sunlight, you need to make sure it is not degraded. If it has one, you also need to watch out for the drain cap. It and it's seal might not be as resistant to the fuel as the rest of the tank body. I personally would not be comfortable with it as a fuel storage tank because of the drain.
