Does anyone know which of the tractor distributors is working with the Chinese to stop the importation of crate tractors?

I read a dealers only posting on another site which mentioned this.

I don't think it will ever happen.

I think it was about selling crate tractors...not importing them.??

There was a thread or two a year or so ago that indicated that Jinma tractors sold in crates to end users would not have factory warranty. It seems the factory may be against this practice, if not of their own accord, to satisfy thier high volume customer.

I predict we will see big changes in JInma supply channels to the US over the next year. I believe the factory is going to limit number of importers, styles of hoods, etc. while the new EPA approved engines solved one import issue, they create another with onger EPA required engine warranties on emission compliance etc. Farm Pro has gone to 2 year warranty on thier now EPA certified tractors, with a price increast to go along with that.

Let's hope they don't stop selling crate tractors.

My understanding is that the EPA is charging a several hundred dollar fee per tractor, which may be the cause of the higher price.

It will be interesting to see what the predicted changes in the Yuan valuation controls will have on import prices. By nearly all accounts, it would push the prices of Chinese products higher. But, that is yet to be seen.

The idea of an import tariff is being bounced around as well. With China trying to buy Unocal (sure to upset some folks), the future of Chinese imports will be interesting.

I don't think the EPA is charging a fee, although I understand they have fined some importers of 1999 engines and that price may have been passed on to buyers. The cost is from the engine factory in China. the engine manufacturer is required to provide long warranties on emmissions related items.
