Dieselfuelonly:
I read your post about first time hooking up attachments and I can't stop laughing at the mental image. Your experience is the same as everyone else, if they'd admit it, but your description is hilarious. Your sense of humor is a key component to owning a tractor. I'm sure your reasons to buy a tractor are similar to all of ours. In my case I wanted to plant a couple of rose bushes for my wife. The ground here is mostly hardpan, so I went to Lowe's to buy a pick. They didn't have one so I bought a backhoe. Enjoy your new best buddy.

Pete, welcome to the TBN forums.

Thanks for contributing; yeah, a backhoe is a good substitute for a pick (if the soil is hard).

Here is a suggestion about posting (for you and any other new posters):
Over 50 of us have viewed your post relating to Dieselfuelonly's post, and I'll bet most of us are wondering which Dieselfuelonly post you're referring to. I even did a quick search of Dieselfuelonly's posts, but there are too many. Rather than starting a new thread, use the "Quote" or "Post Reply" buttons to post in the current thread.

:) :) I appreciate the warm welcome from all of you guys. I don't always do the best job at getting things done quick and I mess up a few times here and there, but I love every minute that I get to use my tractor!

Seat time and keep the greasy side down are reasonably sound ideas on tractor usage.:D :D

For interest I once went to town for a snow probe [ avalanches] and came home with a load of hardwood flooring and a new air compressor. Talk about getting sidetracked Pete.

Ted:
Thanks for the advice. I'm not quite accustomed to the format. I can operate a tractor alot better than a keyboard. Thanks again.

So which post is it?

This one:

Prepare to back up. Tractor jumps forward. At least thought I was in reverse. Apparently I was in first. Clutch, slow down, brakes. Put in reverse. Let out clutch. Start steering towards implement. Stop somewhere near the hookups. Put in neutral, slowly let off clutch in case I've still got it in gear. Set parking brake. Get off tractor. Move lift arms around. Notice I am no where near implement. Get back on tractor. Repeat lurch forward/slam on brakes, throw in reverse, tear up lawn by letting clutch out too fast process. Go through same process about 3 more times. Give up on trying to get close. Start dragging implement around. Put pins in one side, drag the other side around, somehow manage to get that pin in, struggle to lift the implement to get the top pin in, finally get it in there. Get back on tractor. Put in gear, start driving. Realize parking brake is still on. Stop. Release parking brake. Start driving again. Attempt to put implement nicely on the ground. Still getting used to lift. Nervously move lift lever. Slam implement on ground instead. Kinda get lost for a second. Put tractor in neutral and slowly let off clutch. Attempt to remember what needs to happen. Put PTO in 1st gear. Put tractor in 1st gear. Start moving. Tractor moving way to fast. Stop. Put tractor in low range. Thats better. Remember RPMs are not where they should be. Mess with throttle. Till up a few feet of dirt. Tiller starts bouncing on roots. Stop. Repeat again tomorrow :).

I have absolutely been there.

Short of getting a quick hitch, I have found the bucket on the FEL absolutely priceless when hooking up to 3ph equipment. Put bucket hard on ground, about 1/2 way between fully tilted up & fully tilted down. Then, when I find I need to move 4 inches one way or the other, it's just a matter of rotating the bucket the required amount.

I never realized how handy that was, till I bought a Yanny without a FEL. I had no idea now much easier it really was :(
